The representatives of six European universities signed the declaration on the intention to collaborate within the framework of the EU’s Erasmus+ funding programme (Key Action 2 – ‘European Universities’) for setting up of the European University of the Seas "SEA-EU".

Oceanograf

Soon the Oceanograf, the University of Gdańsk’s modern research catamaran, will be equipped with E-NETMOS. The CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) application, created by Enamor, will be installed by the end of March 2019.

THE WUR

In the latest edition of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2019, the University of Gdańsk ranked 6th  position  in Poland among 12 Polish universities  and 4th position among  so called “classic universities” in Poland (after the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, University of Warsaw and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan).

Delegation from Xidian University, China

In November 2018 the University of Gdańsk hosted a delegation from Xidian University in China, with which our university has had a cooperation agreement since 2015. The Chinese university is one of world’s leading centres in the field of research into information technologies and biomedical engineering. During the meeting with Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, and members of the Chinese delegation discussed the particular form of future cooperation.

A youth group from Guryevsk

In November 2018, a group of youth from a school in Guryevsk, a town in the Kaliningrad Region, visited the University Campus in Oliwa, following an invitation by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and the UG’s Promotion Section. The guests paid a visit to a number of sites on campus, including the Faculty of Biology and its Museum of Amber Inclusions, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Museum of Criminalistics, the EcoPark as well as the Mors Radio and the new television studio.

IRA

The ceremonial opening of the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies (ICTQT) took place on 16 November 2018 at the University of Gdańsk. It should be remembered that world-class scientists, Prof. Marek Żukowski and Prof. Paweł Horodecki, received 35 million zloty to create this research unit as part of the International Research Agendas (IRA) programme, implemented by the Foundation for Polish Science.

The first thematic meeting of the UnILiON network was held in Brussels in October 2018. It focused on excellence in academic education and scientific research, with a discussion among representatives of the European Commission and higher education institutions representing the UniLion network.

The University of Gdańsk, together with other Pomeranian universities, is being represented within the network by the Pomeranian Voivodeship Regional Office, which acts as the network’s only Polish representative.

Delegacja młodzieży ze szkoły językowej w Kaliningradzie

On 30 October 2018, a group of over thirty secondary school pupils from a language school in Kaliningrad paid a visit to the UG Campus in Oliwa. The group visited selected sites around the Campus, including the Faculty of Biology, the Faculty of Law and Administration and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The young people and their teachers were most impressed by the Museum of Amber Inclusions, the Museum of Criminalistics, the Radio Mors studio and the new television studio. The trip finished with a walk and a short break in the Ecopark.
