A meeting between Christopher Todd, Head of the “Poland” Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy, and representatives of the Marshal’s Office, held on 19 April 2018 at the University of Gdańsk, focused on projects financed from EU funds. The University of Gdańsk was represented by Prof. Dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, and employees of the Development Projects Management Office.

Thomson Reuter

Exactly 10 years ago, in May 2008, at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Gdańsk, a unique, modern computer lab Thomson Reuters Data Suite (TRDS) was opened. The lab consists of 23 computer stations equipped with an access to Thomson Reuters Eikon – the main product of Thomson Reuters that enables the analysis of financial and commodity markets. Thomson Reuters Data Suite is a result of collaboration between the University of Gdańsk, City of Gdańsk, City of Sopot and Thomson Reuters.

Laboratorium Badawczo-Wdrożeniowe Katedry Biotechnologii

On 1 March 2018 the Research and Implementation Laboratory of the Department of Biotechnology of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG & MUG was the first at the University of Gdańsk to receive certification to confirm the implementation of the quality management system in accordance with the PN-EN ISO/IEC 17015:2005+Ap1:2007 norm (Quality Certificate no. 1/3/2018/LAB).

Australian Days

Australian Days is the only such nationwide event in Poland to be devoted to far-away ‘kangaroo-land’. ‘Evenings with Australia’ is a series of meetings, presentations and workshops, all on the subject of ‘Down Under’. The organisers, Paweł Wida and Karolina Sypniewska-Wida, live in Sydney and try to share their passion and love for this country.

Agreement between the UG and Pomeranian Hospitals

Cooperation in preparing analyses, expert studies and opinions, organising joint scientific conferences and symposia and implementing joint research and development projects are the areas in which the University of Gdańsk and Pomeranian Hospitals have agreed to conduct joint activity as part of the recently signed framework cooperation agreement.

The final recruitment stage for the “BRUSSELS TRAINEESHIPS” Competition 2017/2018 was held on 1 March 2018 in the University of Gdańsk’s Rector’s Office.

The competition, organised by the University of Gdańsk and the Office of Jarosław Wałęsa, MEP, was directed at students from the faculties of:

  • Economics,
  • Social Sciences,
  • Oceanography and Geography,
  • Law and Administration,
  • Management.

NFOŚiGW

Coastal Forester’s Lodge” is the only development project from the Pomeranian Voivodeship to have qualified for funding from resources of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management as part of the 2017 “Ecological Education” programme.

The “Coastal Forester’s Lodge” project will be implemented at the Professor Krzysztof Skóra Hel Marine Station of the Institute of Oceanography of the University of Gdańsk.

Easter

On 23th of March 2018 International Office celebrated Easter with international students. We gathered in the restaurant Koliba and prepared different kind of activities that are significant for Polish Easter. Students could participate in three groups – decorating Easter eggs with traditional method, creating colorful Easter palms and decorating cakes called Mazurek. After that they went outside to sprinkle each other with water in the name of tradition called “Śmigus Dyngus”.

The event was held with help of The Song and Dance Ensemble JANTAR. 

SIPAT

On 14 December 2017 a conference “Study in Pomorskie: Attracting Talents (SIPAT)” was held at the University of Gdańsk, with the aim of exchanging experience with regard to internationalisation and attracting talent.

The “Study in Pomorskie” initiative is an agreement on internationalising Pomeranian academic centres and enhancing the region’s competitiveness, which comprises local Pomeranian authorities and eight universities, including the University of Gdańsk.

Prof. Wojciech Kubiński

The University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Languages and invited guests celebrated 40 years of Professor Wojciech Kubiński’s academic activity (Department of Translation Studies at the UG’s Institute of English and American Studies). The celebration, which included the celebrant being presented with a commemorative book “Pod Pretekstem Słów” (On the Pretext of Words) prepared in his honour, was a chance to exchange reminiscences and express thanks.
