Anders Grubb

The Senate of the University of Gdańsk has bestowed an honorary doctorate on Prof. Anders Grubb, an eminent scientist and doctor. Prof. Grubb is a world-famous specialist in clinical chemistry, particularly medical diagnostics and biochemistry. The award ceremony was held on 28 September 2018 at the Faculty of Chemistry during a formal session of the Senate of the University of Gdańsk.  

Oceanograph II

On the 30th of September the delegation of  Ocean University of China from Qingdao boarded the research and exploration ship called Oceanograph II owned by University of Gdańsk. They were hosted by prof Waldemar Surosz, the Dean of Oceanography and Geography Faculty prof. Mariusz Sapota, the Director of Oceanography Institute. The crew of the vessel demonstrated the laboratories and equipment for marine research that can be conducted onboard.

This is yet another year in which international students choose the University of Gdansk as the place where they want to continue education and deepen their knowledge in selected fields. Over the last week more than 200 newly admitted international students took part in the Orientation Week. Among them, both students who will undertake full degree studies as well as those who came as part of the Erasmus exchange programme from other European universities. They came from various European countries, including Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Korea

Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, hosted Prof. Myeongsook Yoon, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation from Chonbuk National University in South Korea.

The purpose of the meeting was to sign a bilateral memorandum and to discuss the possibilities of future academic cooperation regarding the exchange of students or research and administrative staff as well as joint participation in innovative research and publications.

Oceanograf

The Oceanograf, the state-of-the-art research vessel of the University of Gdańsk’s Institute of Oceanography, has been put into operation. Although scientists are still testing the vessel’s possibilities, research into the environment and nature of the Baltic is already underway. We spent a day on board this modern catamaran with our camera and we were really impressed.

The State Treasury may gain up to 4.4 billion PLN from customs duty from the 2 million TEUs at the Outer Port in Gdynia. Devising environmental documentation for this investment has begun. The agreement was signed with the University of Gdańsk at the Port of Gdynia Authority.

Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation Prof. Piotr Stepnowski hosted a representative of European Universities, Prof. Jose A. Munoz-Cueto from the University of Cadiz in Spain.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibilities of future academic cooperation concerning the exchange of students, academic and administrative staff and joint activity with regard to research and publications.

Delegation of Chonbuk National University from South Korea

Delegation of Chonbuk National University from South Korea, headed by Vice-President for International Cooperation, prof. YOON Myeong Sook visited UG Oliva Campus. Prof. Yoon and Prof. Stepnowski signed memorandum of understanding which will make possible the exchange of staff and students between Gdansk and Jeonju.

The Vice-Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski proudly presented the achievements and potential of UG.

The delegation visited Olivia campus and explored specific ways of organizing short term thematic visits for professors and students.

NAWA

Strengthening the potential of Polish science and higher education abroad is one of the challenges currently faced by Polish universities. The day with the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange in Gdańsk, held at the University of Gdańsk, was an opportunity to present the programmes and support offered to universities by NAWA as well as to discuss the internationalisation of Tri-City universities.

Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation Prof. Dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski and Vice-Rector of the Nanyang Normal University Prof. Kan Yunchao have signed a bilateral agreement on academic cooperation with regard to the exchange of research staff, students, employees, as well as joint research and publications.

The delegation representing the Nanyang Normal University also comprised the deans of the faculties of Economics, Management, Mathematics and Informatics.
