Dr Magdalena Żadkowska from the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Journalism of the UG’s Faculty of Social Sciences has received a scholarship from the French government (the BGF programme) and an invitation to take part in a research visit to CERLIS (Centre de recherche sur les liens sociaux), based at Paris Descartes University, which is one of very few such centres in France to specialise in research into the family.

The BGF programme scholarship will be used to conduct research into Polish and Polish-French couples resident in Paris.

Study in Pomorskie

As part of the Study in Pomorskie programme, representatives of Tri-City universities are taking part in a working meeting at Charles University in Prague. The University of Gdańsk is being represented by employees of the Office of Research and International Co-operation.

Interreg

At the Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, University of Gdańsk Vice-Rector for Development Prof. Dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski signed a project agreement concerning the implementation of the Baltic Heritage Routes project in the presence of, among others, Adam Hamryszczak, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Development, and the Voivode Dariusz Drelich.

Cooperation agreement between the University of Gdańsk and the Belarusian State University in Minsk

An exchange of visiting professors and students is the main joint activity of the University of Gdańsk and the Belarusian State University in Minsk as part of the recently signed cooperation agreement.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the University of Gdańsk by the Rector Prof. Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała and on behalf of the Belarusian State University in Minsk by its Vice-Rector Prof. Siarhej Pazniak.

Between 12 − 16 June 2017 the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid was the venue for International Staff Week as part of the Erasmus+ Programme. Our university was represented by the Foreign Languages Centre.

prof. Lech Garlicki

Prof. Lech Garlicki, a researcher of international renown and one of the most acclaimed professors of constitutional law, has been awarded a University of Gdańsk honorary doctorate for his doctrinal and judicial contribution into the shaping of the state of justice, particularly the protection of human rights and democratic institutions in Poland and Europe. The ceremony was held on 22 June 2017 in the auditorium of the UG Library.

UG’s Jantar Song and Dance Ensemble

Between 20 ─ 27 May 2017 members of the UG’s Jantar Song and Dance Ensemble represented Poland at the 2nd International Congress of Folklore "Dança e Tradição" in Passo Fundo, Brazil. The Congress, which takes place every two years, is organised by the Brazilian Federation for Folk Arts and FIDAF America. This year, the UG’s Jantar Song and Dance Ensemble was the only European representative, the other countries being Peru, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina. For this reason, Polish folklore proved very exotic and drew the attention of the audience.

A Warm Welcome

Between 31 May ─ 3 June 2017 a University of Gdańsk delegation took part in a series of official meetings with representatives of Chinese universities and other institutions which foster Polish-Chinese academic exchange, and with which the University of Gdańsk has already cooperated or with which it is planning to initiate cooperation.
