Erasmus Plus

The Foreign Students Office Staff along with the members of the UG Erasmus Student Network section prepared welcome pack kits for the New, Incoming, Foreign Students starting their studies in the summer semester of the 2017/18 academic year.

The welcome meeting for our new students is scheduled to take place on 16 February 2018.

On 6 December 2017 the University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Languages (Neophilology building) witnessed celebrations for the centenary of Finnish independence. An exhibition “Itsenäisyyspäivä – the centenary of Finnish independence” was also staged in the main foyer.

First and third year students of Finnish sang the Finnish anthem and prepared presentations as well as traditional delicacies such as Karelian pasties and cakes.

Prof. Kamil Zeidler with ICCROM Director-General Stefano De Caro

Profesor Kamil Zeidler from the Department of Theory and Philosophy of Law and State represented the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage during the ICCROM General Assembly held between 29 November and 1 December 2017 in Rome at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) is an international intergovernmental organisation based in Rome and comprising 136 member states. Poland has been a member since 1958.

On 22 November 2017, Dr hab. Przemysław Borkowski, an associate professor from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, took part as an invited expert in a public hearing regarding the new ‘Mobility Package’ under discussion by the European Parliament Committee on Transport and Tourism. 

meeting with the Mayor of Sopot

On January 16, 2018, students of the first year of the second degree of International Business specialization took part in a meeting with the Mayor of Sopot, Mr. dr Jacek Karnowski. The meeting was held in the City Hall, in the City Council of Sopot. The students were accompanied by: prof. zw. dr hab. Ewa Oziewicz (Director of the Institute of International Business), dr hab. Anna Maria Nikodemska-Wołowik, prof. UG (Deputy Director of the Institute of International Business) and dr Magdalena Mosionek-Schweda (Coordinator of the International Business specialization).

Smok

A group of friends, a University of Gdańsk student and Gdańsk University of Technology graduates have created “Smok” (“Dragon”), a chatbot which indicates current air quality in a given location. The programme is available through Facebook and is therefore very easy to access.

Interreg South Baltic

The international project entitled "SEAPLANSPACE − Marine spatial planning instruments for sustainable marine governance" will be implemented in cooperation with partners from Poland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Lithuania. The project aims to strengthen the competences of employees of administration and the private sector, as well as students and university graduates, in the area of marine spatial planning and sustainable marine governance.

Physicists from the University of Gdańsk are developing new theoretical mechanisms which will help to better characterise systems made up of many particles. This in turn will result in an improvement of physical measurements and in future may help in constructing quantum computers.
