On the 66th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, regarded as the beginnings of European integration, the University of Gdańsk celebrates Europe Day. According to a long tradition, the Research Centre on European Integration, along with the University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Economics, organised the celebration of Europe Day on 16 May 2016. The event’s patron was Jarosław Wałęsa MEP, and the special guest was Aleksander Kwaśniewski, President of the Republic of Poland between 1995-2005. The theme was “Europe in the Face of Current Challenges”.

Between 12-13 May 2016 the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk held the first Baltic Festival of Economics, a continuation of the 13-year-old tradition of the Baltic Festival of Science.

Start 2016 scholarships have been awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science.

The winners included five representatives of the University of Gdańsk: 

At its last meeting in March 2016, the High Level Group of EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries on Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies and Advanced Materials decided to set up short-term experts Task Forces in order to discuss the main bottle-necks to bridge the gap from the research to the market, as identified by the engineering and upscaling cluster in 2015.

The four Task Forces will cover the following topics or bottle-necks:

Conference and Opening Ceremony at the new Faculty of Biotechnology

We invite you to a conference entitled ‘Biotech Solutions for Health and Environment: MOBI4Health Conference & New IFB Building Opening’ which will take place between 12-15 April 2016 at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology run by the University of Gdańsk and Gdańsk University of Medicine. The event will be linked to the opening ceremony of the new Faculty of Biotechnology building.

On 16th March 2016, the Grand Finale Gala of the first All-Poland Accreditation Programme ‘Studies with a Future’, organised  by the Foundation for the Development of Schooling and Higher Education and the PRC Public Relations Agency, took place in the Ballroom of Warsaw University’s Tyszkiewicz–Potocki Palace.

On Thursday 31 March 2016, the Senate of the University of Gdańsk named the Institute of Oceanography’s Marine Station in Hel after Professor Krzysztof Skóra, who founded and led the centre for many years.
