The Kashubian Institute, the Museum of Kashubian and Pomeranian Literature and Music, the Kashubian-Pomeranian Association, the Kashubian Committee at the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences  as well as Secondary School no. 1 in Wejherowo have the honour  to extend an invitation to the Inauguration of the Year of Gerard Labuda under the patronage of the head of the district of Wejherowo, Gabriela Lisius, and the Mayor of Wejherowo, Krzysztof Hildebrandt, to be held on 12 January 2016 in Wejherowo.

One of the largest biotope aquaria in Poland is being set up in the UG’s Faculty of Biology building. The 7,000-litre tank will replicate the exact conditions of the biotope of Africa’s Lake Malawi.

The Plasmid and Microorganism Collection of the UG’s Faculty of Biology would like to welcome you to an exhibition organised under the patronage of the National Antibiotics Protection Programme, the Ministry of Health and the European Union on the occasion of World Antibiotic Awareness Week.

The exhibition can be viewed in the lobby of the Faculty of Biology building until 31 January 2016 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Having consulted the General Council for Science and Higher Education,  the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles has decided to grant the UG’s Faculty of Oceanography and Geography the right to confer the degree of “doktor habilitowany” in Earth Sciences in the field of Geography with effect from 26 October 2015.

Between 16 - 18 November 2015 the UG’s Faculty of Law and Administration is hosting the 19th Legal Education Days event. The project has been held annually since 1997 by the European Law Students’ Association ELSA Poland in 16 cities across the country.

The Legal Education Days is an educational endeavour with ELSA members showing students ways in which they can improve or educate themselves, as well as various directions for future professional careers.

On 26 November 2015 the UG’s Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics will hold another popular science event addressed to pupils and teachers of upper-secondary schools in the Pomeranian voivodeship.

The event will be accompanied by numerous attractions to promote mathematics: 

• workshops related to important and interesting mathematical problems on the secondary school curriculum, as well as other popular science issues;

• three popular science lectures;

Professor  Marek Żukowski has been chosen Associate Editor of the Physical Review A, one of the most important physics journals. Congratulations! This is yet another example of a University of Gdańsk academic being chosen editor of a prestigious journal in a particular scientific field, to name one other example - Professor Grzegorz Węgrzyn, editor of the FEMS Microbiology Reviews, a leading microbiology journal (Impact Factor = 13.244).
