Management

Students of the UG’s Faculty of Management have won an Oxford-Style debate on the lowering of the pension age, which took place in the Trading Floor of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Their opponents were students from the Warsaw School of Economics.

University of Gdańsk student, Marta Rosa, has been chosen as one of the winners in a competition run by the City of Gdańsk for photographs in a 2016 calendar.

Once again, the City of Gdańsk has organised a photographic competition connected with the publication of a calendar, this time for the year 2016. The main theme is ‘All the Faces of Oliwa’. The photograph by Marta Rosa, a first-year MA student of Journalism and Social Communication at the UG’s Faculty of Social Sciences, was chosen as the winning image for August.

Wednesday, 13 January, saw the pitch contest to conclude the Preparation Camp, the qualifying meeting of the Starter Rocket acceleration programme organised by STARTER, the Gdańsk Business Incubator. The jury selected 9 start-ups which will have a chance to participate in a 5-month acceleration.

Piaf

On 19 December 2015 we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Edith Piaf. To mark the occasion, we invite you to the exhibition “There was Piaf”,  which will open on 15 January 2016 at 6 p.m. in the University of Gdańsk’s Main Library.

The exhibition contains a wealth of items dedicated to this outstanding French singer from the private collection of Professor Mieczysław Gajos, French philologist at the University of Łódź and an aficionado and expert on the subject.

Limon

Dziennik Bałtycki  has decided to honour the passions of people from Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot and has announced nominations for the 2015 Personality of the Year. Among the 24 people, or more precisely personalities, nominated from Gdańsk, is Professor Dr hab. Jerzy Limon from the Institute of English and American Studies and Director of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre “for the theatre’s successful and varied first season”.

One year ago, the Year of Mathematics in Pomerania was inaugurated at the University of Gdańsk.  To mark the occasion the UG’s Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics organised thirty important and dynamic events throughout the region, including several hundred competitions, popular science lectures, presentations, exhibitions, and mathematical games, as well as 110 workshops. More than 6,000 people took part.
