In August 2017, the Coordinators of the National Science Centre announced the ranking for projects which had qualified for funding as part of the December 2016 MINIATURA 1 competition for single research activities. Amongst the prize winners are:

On 5 October 2017 the results of the second BEETHOVEN competition were announced for Polish- German research projects in the areas of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts and selected Exact and Technical Sciences. The competition is organised by the National Science Centre in conjunction with the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft; DFG).

Erasmus+

A project by Dr hab. Sylwia Mrozowska "Energy for the future. European studies to challenges in the European Union" (EUnergy) has received funding as part of the Erasmus+ programme.

The project concentrates around the following two Jean Monnet Modules:

Foundation for Polish Science

Dr Alicja Chmielewska has received a grant to the value of 799,963 PLN awarded as part of the Foundation for Polish Science POWROTY programme.

Dr Michał Roman Szymański has received a grant to the value of 2,000,000 PLN as part of the FIRST TEAM programme. The project "Targeting mitochondrial DNA repair for novel anti-cancer therapies" will be implemented at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and MUG.

University of Gdańsk students Klaudiusz Szczepan Czudek from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics and Artur Sawicki from the Faculty of Social Sciences are among the winners of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Diamond Grant competition. The students will receive over 300,000 PLN in total to finance their own research.

Cycle for Gdańsk

The University of Gdańsk has come second in the Higher Education Institutions category in the competition “Cycle for Gdańsk / Kręć kilometry dla Gdańska – European Cycling Challenge” with a total of 26,233.5 km covered, behind Gdańsk University of Technology (48,353.6 km) and ahead of the Medical University of Gdańsk (9,830.9 km).

The University of Gdańsk has come fourth in a ranking of Polish universities and research units where the highest number of individuals received a START Scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science, which is aimed at the most talented young researchers. This is a great honour for the University and good news for the young researchers. Gdańsk took third place in a city ranking. START is the largest Polish scholarship programme for the best young researchers under the age of 30 from all branches of science.

Bridge to Chinese

On 25 May 2017 the Confucius Institute of the University of Gdańsk held the finals of the 16th Polish Competition “Most do języka chińskiego” (Bridge to Chinese, 汉语桥) in which 19 students took part.

On 8 April 2017 dancers from the groups Animus Saltandi and Trebraruna won a total of 33 medals in three age categories in the Silver Ghillie competition organised by Dutch Pipes and Drums in Tilburg (Holland).

At the same time the 17th Polish Dance Championships were held in Wieliszewo, bringing together 180 couples from all over Poland.
