UG Sinology student wins the “Bridge to Chinese” competition 0

The winner of the Polish stage of the “Bridge to Chinese” Competition is Daiwa Wojczulis, a third-year student of Sinology at the University of Gdańsk.

The finals of the 17th Polish Competition took place at the Adam Mickiewicz University Confucius Institute in Poznań.

National Science Centre

According to the ranking list of projects qualified for funding as part of the 27th National Science Centre (NCN) competition, announced by NCN coordinators, 16 applications submitted by University of Gdańsk employees and doctorate students have been granted funding to the total amount of 13,120,959 PLN.

START 2018

For the 26th time the Foundation for Polish Science has awarded START 2018 scholarships for the most talented young Polish researchers, this year to 100 individuals. The annual scholarship amounts to 28,000 PLN, with the total allocated by the Foundation to START scholarships in 2018 standing at circa 3 million PLN.

Starbios 2

At the University of Gdańsk, secondary school pupils from the Pomeranian Voivodeship tackled difficult tasks from the fields of biological and biotechnological sciences, concerning immunology and vaccines. The STARBIOS2 Vaccine Quiz was held at the University of Gdańsk for the first time. Although the level of difficulty was very high, the winner Agnieszka Gołąb from the Krzysztof Kolberger 9th Secondary School in Gdańsk received the maximum number of points.

Fame Lab

The 24 February 2018 saw the semi-finals of the 7th Polish edition of the FameLab competition, organised by the Copernicus Science Centre in cooperation with the British Council.

Twenty-five young scientists took to the stage to present a subject connected with their scientific research in a clear and inspiring way and in the space of three minutes.

According to the ranking list of projects, presented by National Science Centre coordinators and qualifying for funding as part of the following NSC competitions announced on 15 June 2017:

SAMBAH

Following a decision by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, the project SAMBAH (Static Acoustic Monitoring of the Baltic Sea Harbour Porpoise) has been nominated for an award in the "Best of the best” competition for projects implemented through LIFE+ and completed in 2016 – 2017. The projects have been nominated in the categories Environment and Nature. Nine winners will be selected from amongst all the nominees.

AMBER

On 29 January 2018, the European Commission announced the results of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie competition for individual grants for researchers – the MSCA Individual Fellowships. A total of 1,348 researchers received a grant to a total value of EUR 250m.

Dr Agnieszka Gajewicz from the University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Chemistry has received a habilitation scholarship as part of the “L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science” programme for the development of chemoinformatic methods for assisting the assessment of chemical risk posed by new chemical substances, as well as those already present in the environment. A total of six women researchers were distinguished for diverse research projects in broadly defined life sciences including psychology, medicine, biology or chemistry.
