As part of the second stage of the Media Competition, almost 70 pupils from 19 Pomeranian secondary schools faced questions on the subject of media and journalism in the UG’s Faculty of Social Sciences. Szymon Rać, Igor Skórzybót and Dominika Golombek achieved the highest scores. During this regional stage of the Competition a total of ten finalists have been selected who will represent Pomerania during the central stage in March 2016 in Warsaw.

Pairs of scientists working together (one from Poland and one from the USA) have until 31 December 2015 to apply for the second Polish-American Scientific Award. 

STARTER, the Gdańsk Business Incubator, is working on the development of the first open internet platform for teachers and educators who want to use gamification as a tool to conduct school classes and extra-curricular activities. Teachers, coaches and educators alike will all be able to use GamLab for free. At present funds are being raised for this purpose with the help of a crowdfunding site – PolakPotrafi.pl.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has announced the fourth list of prize-winners in the “Diamond Grant” project. Among this year’s laureates is a student of the UG and MUG Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology, Angelika Michalak, who wins 199,775 zloty towards her project The Therapeutic Uses of Secondary Metabolites of the Genus Iris: The Effective Isolation, Analysis and Uses of Biologically Active Extracts.

Ms Michalak was one of 78 outstanding students form all over Poland to be recognised. As the Ministry’s website states:

The finalists

Students from the University of Gdańsk have become the only European team to make it through to the final round of the international information technology competition, where they took third prize in the category “IS That Serves Society”. The young programmers from the UG’s Department of Business Informatics designed and programmed an innovative mobile application by the name of SafeWatch, which  allows users to call for help discreetly during an emergency.
