The Minister of Science and Higher Education has allotted nearly 16 million zł to finance projects by exceptionally talented students of long-cycle studies or graduates of first-cycle studies who are conducting high-level research and can boast outstanding scientific achievement.

The results of the 7th competition as part of the LIDER Programme have been announced. On the basis of the ranking list drawn up in the course of the qualification procedure as well as available allocation, 35 projects will receive funding to a total sum of  39 689 595.45 zł.

Two University of Gdańsk applications have qualified:

perspektywy

The Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk has taken second place as the best biotechnology course in Poland. The faculty was placed after the Jagiellonian University’s Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology according to the ‘Perspektywy 2016’ ranking.

On 15 June 2016 in the State Art Gallery in Sopot an open Oxford debate took place on the motion “The European Union will collapse within the next five years”. The role of marshall was taken by Grzegorz Nawrocki, President of the British Alumni Society.

Trebraruna

On 11 June 2016 dance groups from the UG’s ‘Alternator’ Academic Culture Centre, Animus Saltandi and Trebraruna, took part in a Scottish dance competition held in Molenhoek in Holland.

University of  Gdańsk Student wins ABB IT Challenge 1

A group of students, including Agnieszka Kolasińska, a student of  Neuropsychology at the University of  Gdańsk, took first place in the ABB IT Challenge by designing an application to ease the process of learning. The team of two, the other being Kamil Pociot, an Informatics student from the UMK in Toruń, won the challenge and beat several other teams from all over Poland.

The shortlist of ten books promoting economic science, nominated in the ECONOMICUS 2016 Competition organised by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna,  includes the book Bankructwa i Upadłości Przedsiębiorstw (Bankruptcy and Insolvency of Companies) by Dr Paweł Antonowicz, employee of the Department of Business Economics at the UG’s Faculty of Management.

The publication Gdańsk, moje miejsce bez granic (Gdańsk, 2015) edited by Professor Maria Mendel (and illustrated by Daniel Krajnik) is the result of a competition announced in preparation for the tenth year of the Mayor of Gdańsk’s Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit Academic Scholarship in 2014.

On 12 February 2016  the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) announced the 5th Competition for the Prize of the Chairman of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority for the best doctoral dissertation on the subject of financial markets.  The aim of the competition is to stimulate the development of Polish science in the field of financial markets. The Competition regulations allow for a prize of 15,000 zl. The Competition Jury may also award a second prize of 5,000 zl.

Wednesday, 13 January, saw the pitch contest to conclude the Preparation Camp, the qualifying meeting of the Starter Rocket acceleration programme organised by STARTER, the Gdańsk Business Incubator. The jury selected 9 start-ups which will have a chance to participate in a 5-month acceleration.
