The Association of Journalists of the Republic of Poland has announced the nominations for the 2017 Bolesław Prus Award in two categories ─ experienced journalists for overall achievement in the field and young journalists for an exceptional start in the profession. Alina Kietrys M.A. from the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences has been nominated for her lifetime achievement in journalism.

Dr hab. Anna Mazurkiewicz receives Haiman Award

During the jubilee 75th conference of the Polish American Historical Association, Dr hab. Anna Mazurkiewicz, associate professor from the Faculty of History of the University of Gdańsk, was presented with a Haiman Award.

Winners of the third Mayor of Gdynia Award for the best diploma on the subject of Gdynia’s economic development have been announced.

Prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska (Institute of Art History, Faculty of History of the University of Gdańsk), researcher of the history of the Baltic seaside resort of Palanga, has received honorary citizenship of this Lithuanian town. The ceremony of awarding citizenship to the former Polish Minister of Culture was held in Palanga.

Instytut Konfucjusza

The University of Gdańsk’s Confucius Institute has announced that 21 people have received Confucius Institute Scholarships offered by Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International), of whom as many as 16 are students of Sinology at the University of Gdańsk.

The remaining scholarship winners include graduates of Eastern Studies at the Faculty of Languages and Economics at the Faculty of Economics.

Dr Katarzyna Świerk, head of the University of Gdańsk’s Office of Research and International Cooperation, has received a second degree award for her article and lecture presented at the 3rd international conference The Belt and Road Countries Forum on International Business Education in China.

FameLab is an international competition which encourages scientists, the natural spokespeople for science, to speak out in public. Scientists are expected to face a jury and an audience and, in the space of three minutes, tell what fascinates them every day in their research work.

Faculty of Management Students placed third

A team of students from the UG’s Faculty of Management (specialty: IT Applications in Business) qualified for the finals of the competition Association for Information Systems Student Chapters, held in Dallas (USA).

The three-member team comprising Krzysztof Orłowski, Adam Ostrowski and Paweł Stożyński came third in the category Software Innovation Challenge, winning a commemorative trophy.

In the 12th edition of the Verba Veritatis competition the University of Gdańsk has been distinguished for its contribution to increasing the level of knowledge and competence in the fields of business ethics, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate governance. Among those distinguished were also six other universities whose students had entered the most papers in all the previous editions of the competition.

Elsevier

The University of Gdańsk is among one of three universities nominated for the Elsevier Research Impact Leaders 2017 Award in the category of Humanities (alongside the University of Szczecin and the University of Rzeszów).

Elsevier has launched a project aimed at improving the global visibility of the academic achievements of Polish universities. The project includes cooperation with leading research institutions wishing to increase their chances to receive grants, gain greater worldwide recognition and improve their level of internationalisation.
