Piotr Pawlak, student of mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics , Physics and Informatics of the University of Gdańsk was awarded the City of Gdańsk Culture Prize for Young Artists. He was recognized for his outstanding achievements in national and international piano competitions. Piotr Pawlak has also won numerous prizes in mathematics , physics, informatics and mathematical linguistics. He performs in Poland and has given numerous concerts abroad.

The Committee of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) awarded the 2019 prize to prof dr hab. Ryszard Horodecki for his outstanding contribution to quantum information science and the development of this field.

The intention of ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Awards is to identify and highlight universities whose latest (from 2016-2018) publications have the greatest impact on the visibility of Polish science in the world. The award promotes the high quality of scientific research and internationalization. The jury of the Award takes into account the increase in the number of publications in the most prestigious scientific journals, publications with the participation of foreign co-authors and the citation index in a given discipline.

We are pleased to announce that in the world Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2019 the University of Gdansk has been classified at 301+ position among young universities from all over the world.

UG is the only Polish university in this ranking.
The Times Higher Education Young University Ranking is a world ranking of the best universities of various profiles, which operate for no more than 50 years.

The 45th Red Rose competition for the best student in Pomerania was won by Agnieszka Piotrowska-Kirschling from the University of Gdańsk for her impressive research achievement in the field of chemistry and her organizational activity. One of the prizes in the competition was a car. The Psychological Research Circle “Experior” from the University of Gdańsk was also among the finalists and the title of the best scientific circle was awarded to the Scientific Circle SimLE from the Gdańsk University of Technology.

A scientific consortium, of which the University of Gdańsk is member, has won the 2019 Polish Smart Growth Award under the patronage of the President of the Polish Patent Office, Dr Alicja Adamczak. The award was given in the category “Innovative future technologies” for the implementation of the project “Multifunctional composite material with antimicrobial and pro-regenerative properties for the reconstruction of bone tissue". The University of Gdańsk is represented in the consortium by Dr hab.

Better air quality courtesy of researchers from the UG’s Faculty of Chemistry – as many as four awards at the International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition in Bangkok.

Between 10 and 13 January the Academic Choir of the University of Gdańsk took part in the 13th International Festival and Competition of Sacred Music “Silver Bells” in Daugavpils in Latvia where it performed in two categories:

Professor Piotr Stepnowski from the University of Gdańsk, a renowned world-class authority on environmental research and protection, has received the 2018 Johannes Hevelius Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk in the category of exact and natural sciences. This most important Pomeranian distinction was awarded to Prof. Stepnowski for “a significant contribution to the development of research into the forecasting, detection and assessment of the negative impact of the residues of medicinal substances and ionic liquids in the environment”.
