The University of Gdańsk is amongst the first five universities in obtaining resources from the National Science Centre (NCN). The ranking took into consideration only those institutions which in 2016 were granted funding to a value exceeding 10 million PLN. The total value of resources allocated to the University of Gdańsk as part of all NCN competitions in 2016 stands at over 28 million PLN.

New technologies, the generation gap, realising the current and predicting the future needs of the job market as well as a dynamically changing society ─ these all pose a great number of challenges to teachers as to methods and forms of teaching as well as rules for broadening their own knowledge and didactic skills.

The Vice-Rector for Research, Education and International Cooperation of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Prof. Mariya Zubrytsa and the Rector of the University of Gdańsk Prof. Jerzy Gwizdała have signed a cooperation agreement concerning didactics and scientific research.

The University of Gdańsk has signed a cooperation agreement with the Social Insurance Institution (Zakład Ubezpieczeń Społecznych), thus combining science and practice and opening up a way to mutual undertakings in the future. The agreement was signed on 4 October 2016 at the University of Gdańsk.

Over 30,000 students, doctoral and postgraduate students as well as 1,700 academic teachers have started the new academic year 2016/2017 at the University of Gdańsk. The university admitted over 11,500 students to the first year of study. 3 October 2016 saw the inauguration of the academic year for the largest university in the Pomeranian region.
