The University of Gdańsk female student chess success

Julia Antolak, a first year student of Scandinavian studies at the University of Gdańsk, won a Silver Medal at the Female U20 Polish Chess Championship. The Individual U20 Polish Chess Championship took place in Ustroń Jaszowiec from 23 to 30 November, 2019.

AZS UG Futsal Ladies triumph

The competition brought together two teams from Poland (AZS UG Futsal Ladies, UAM Poznań) and two from the United Kingdom (Liverbird Futsal, Manchester Futsal).

The Gdańsk team won two of three matches in the first phase of the tournament:

Wicemistrzostwo Polski w biegach przełajowych

The University of Gdańsk AZS (Academic Sports Association) team won silver medals during the Polish Academic Cross Country Championships. The competition was held on 24 March 2018 in Siemianowice Śląskie. In addition, a University of Gdańsk student took an individual first place in a 3 km run, winning gold in general classification

Sara Piasecka

A student of the UG’s Faculty of Economics and member of the yachting section, Sara Piasecka, achieved excellent results when once again she took the podium in an international ice yachting competition.

Sara Piasecka won the silver medal in the DN Junior European Championships in the women’s category, held on 8 February 2018 on Lake Kisezers in Riga, Latvia.

Prior to this, Sara Piasecka also won the silver medal in the DN Junior World Championships in the women’s category, held on 6 and 7 February 2018 on Lake Rekyva in Šiauliai in Lithuania.

Between 19 − 20 October 2017, Opole witnessed the annual Academic Sport Gala which summed up the academic sports year 2017/2018. Awards were given to the best sportswomen and sportsmen as well as AZS clubs. Amongst those awarded was the University of Gdańsk AZS Club which came third in the Polish Academic Championships.

Aftański

Between 9 and 17 July 2017 the Turkish city of Corum hosted the European Universities Futsal Championship. Our teams were not represented at the competition but we did have a representative.

The function of Technical Delegate of EUSA (European University Sports Association) was entrusted to Tomasz Aftański, Deputy Director for Sport at the UG’s Physical Education and Sports Section and coach of the AZS UG Futsal Ladies team which plays in the Women’s Futsal Extraleague.

Dragon Boat Competition

The World's Most Famous Universities Dragon Boat Competition was held between 22−26 June 2017 in Dali, Shaanxi in China. For the first time one participant was a team from Poland, the PG Smoki Północy Sports Association from Gdańsk, founded in 2011.

University of Gdańsk

The 2016/2017 season of the Polish Academic Championships has come to an end. The University of Gdańsk Academic Sports Association (AZS UG) has defended third place amongst Polish universities. Placing in the general ranking in the Polish Academic Championships was decided on the basis of the 35 best results (points) scored by sportsmen and women in the disciplines in which a given university had been classified. In the general classification of all universities the University of Gdańsk took a high eleventh place, only 3.5 points short of tenth place.

UG’s Academic Sports Association athletics section

Between 25─27 May 2017, athletes from the University of Gdańsk’s Academic Sports Association competed in the Polish Academic Championships in Lodz. The women’s team won bronze in the university ranking while the men’s team took sixth place in the same category.

The AZS University of Gdańsk’s volleyball team made an excellent appearance, winning the title of Vice-Champions of Poland

The finals of the Men’s Polish Academic Volleyball Championships were held in Opole between 4 -7 May 2017. The AZS University of Gdańsk’s volleyball team made an excellent appearance, winning the title of Vice-Champions of Poland. Apart from that, coach Edward Pawlun’s team won gold medals in the university ranking.
