For the 26th time the Foundation for Polish Science has awarded START 2018 scholarships for the most talented young Polish researchers, this year to 100 individuals. The annual scholarship amounts to 28,000 PLN, with the total allocated by the Foundation to START scholarships in 2018 standing at circa 3 million PLN.
START is the largest scholarship programme in Poland for the best young researchers below the age of thirty, representing all branches of science. It is the Foundation’s longest-running programme, with the total of scholarship winners, including this year’s, amounting to over 2,900. The scholarships, which can be spent in any manner, are aimed at providing financial support to young researchers at the difficult start of their scientific careers, allowing them to fully dedicate themselves to science.
This year’s scholarship winners were selected from amongst 890 candidates by means of a competition. Their average age is 28 and 48% of them hold the title of Doctor (in Poland the average doctoral age is around 35).
The ceremony of awarding certificates to scholarship winners was held on 26 May 2018 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The call for applications for the next competition will begin in autumn 2018.
