The 24 February 2018 saw the semi-finals of the 7th Polish edition of the FameLab competition, organised by the Copernicus Science Centre in cooperation with the British Council.
Twenty-five young scientists took to the stage to present a subject connected with their scientific research in a clear and inspiring way and in the space of three minutes.
Among the ten finalists selected was Paulina Jędrak MSc. from the Department of Molecular Biology of the UG’s Faculty of Biology, who in the semi-finals had presented the working of molecular scissors for cleaving DNA.
FameLab is an international competition organised annually in over 25 countries across the globe. Its aim is to provide support to scientists in their professional work through honing their public speaking and self-presentation skills. The presentations are assessed in three categories – subject content, clarity and charisma. Those invited to participate in the competition conduct research in the fields of exact, natural, medical, agricultural or technical sciences.
The national finals of the competition will be held on 19 May 2018 and will be preceded by three-day training in scientific communication, self-presentation and public speaking.
