At the invitation of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Dr hab. Jerzy P. Gwizdała, associate professor, the Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin met at the University of Gdańsk with rectors of Pomeranian higher education institutions affiliated with the Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. At the University of Gdańsk the Deputy Prime Minister also met Tri-City journalists.

The visit of the Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin started with his participation in the session of the Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, during which the discussion concentrated on the new financing algorithm, enhancing the quality of education, placing greater stress on the innovation of higher education institutions and on scientific research, as well as scientific and social scholarships for students.

The Deputy Prime Minister then met with Tri-City journalists and answered their questions during a press briefing.

About the Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship

Pomeranian higher education institutions cooperate with each other through a regional rectors’ council, established in 1987 as the Rectors’ Council of Gdańsk Pomerania (from 1993 as the Rectors’ Council of Vistulan Pomerania) and currently the Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, comprising 13 higher education institutions of the Pomeranian Voivodeship whose Chair for the term 2016-2020 is the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Dr hab. Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała, associate professor.

The Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship aims to integrate the academic community and to establish close ties with local authorities, which in turn has an important impact on effective higher education and science and most of all in the solving of mutual problems.

As part of the Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship higher education institutions exchange information, agree on policies and undertake joint activities. This substantive cooperation is aimed at enhancing general education, merging the knowledge of the Humanities, medicine, technology and the Arts and shaping appropriate moral and ethical attitudes.
