NonHazCity project

The NonHazCity project for the years 2016 – 2019 is an educational project aimed at changing consumer behaviour in order to improve the natural environment. We want to get directly to the sources of pollution and attempt to reduce the consumption of hazardous substances at the source. The education part of the project is aimed at municipal institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises and domestic households. We expect that the actions we undertake in the project will help reduce the amount of hazardous substances introduced into the sewage system, and ultimately into the waters of the Baltic Sea.

The project brings together 18 partners from the Baltic region, including cities and local institutions, research centres, sewage treatment plants and many associated partners. The project aims at identifying sources of hazardous substances and classifying them in order of importance. The results will be used in devising “Chemicals Action Plans” ─ long-term strategies, individual for each partner, to limit the emission of hazardous substances into the environment.
