Prof. Marek Żukowski from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the University of Gdańsk has been nominated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for membership of one of the European governance bodies ─ the FET Flagships Board of Funders.
The Board of Funders (BOF) is one of the bodies which manages the Future and Emerging Technologies Flagships initiatives (FFs for short) ─ long-term extensive projects for future and emerging technologies connected with using the potential of graphene and developing knowledge on the workings of the human brain (The Graphene and Human Brain Project). The BOF brings together the main funders of these research initiatives i.e. representatives of Member States and Associated Countries of Horizon 2020, the largest ever programme for financing research and innovation in the European Union, and representatives of the European Commission in order to provide backing for activities which foster the development of FFs. The BOF’s main role is to discuss and plan financial support for research throughout its entire duration.
The BOF is part of the FLAG-ERA consortium, an ERA-NET programme implemented as part of the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme. The FLAG-ERA comprises 37 agencies which finance research in 26 countries (22 partners of the consortium + 15 associated agencies).
