The University of Gdańsk has received the HR Excellence in Research logo awarded by the European Commission to institutions which follow the principles outlined in the ‘European Charter for Researchers’ and the ‘Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers’.
The European Commission presents the award to research institutions which meet the standards of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers when recruiting academic staff. In accepting this, the institutions commit themselves to fostering favourable work conditions, career development and transparent processes for the recruitment of academic staff.
So far in Poland thirteen research units have received the logo, with only one of these a university – Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. We are the second university in Poland to be honoured in this way.
Awarding the logo is one of the European Commission’s activities in the ‘Human Resources Strategy for Researchers’, which aims to increase the appeal of work conditions for researchers in the EU. This should lead to an increase in the numbers of academic staff in European institutions. The European Commission encourages institutions which implement the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers by organising meetings and discussions for those involved. Moreover, it promotes institutions from amongst those international organisations which guarantee the best work conditions and development for staff.
