Agreement between Tri-City higher education institutions on the broad issue of state security

Tri-City higher education institutions ─ the University of Gdańsk, the Polish Naval Academy and the Technical University of Gdańsk, have signed an agreement on joint activities and projects regarding broadly defined state security. The agreement aims to devise and implement innovative solutions concerning the development of state security and particularly Polish marine areas, infrastructure and maritime navigation.

The agreement was signed at the University of Gdańsk by the institution rectors Prof. Jerzy Gwizdała, Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Com. Dr hab. Tomasz Szubrycht, Rector of the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia and Prof. Jacek Namieśnik, Rector of the Technical University of Gdańsk.

The agreement will involve projects to devise and implement innovative technological and organisational solutions which will ensure the development of state security, particularly Polish marine areas, infrastructure and maritime navigation. In addition, the agreement aims to seek out partners for joint research and development work, mainly from amongst Polish and foreign research centres and businesses, as well as ensuring financial resources for the implementation of the work. This will result in strengthening cooperation between the science and business sectors, with support from public administration with regard to broadly defined state security. There are also plans to organise joint conferences and seminars.

All these activities will be made possible thanks to the scientific and research potential of the three Tri-City higher education institutions ─ the University of Gdańsk, the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia and the Technical University of Gdańskall held in high esteem in Poland and abroad.

The agreement’s leader is the Polish Naval Academy of the Heroes of Westerplatte in Gdynia as a public military academy actively involved in shaping the state’s defence, which focuses its activity on the education and instruction of students while conducting scientific research orientated towards maritime technology to assist the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, in particular the Polish Navy.

The implementation of the provisions of the agreement will be supervised by representatives of the educational institutions ─ Prof. Tadeusz Dmochowski, Dean of the UG’s Faculty of Social Sciences, Com. Dr hab. Jarosław Teska, Dean of the Polish Naval Academy’s Faculty of Command and Naval Operations and Prof. Janusz Kozak, Dean of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology of the Technical University of Gdańsk.
