The University of Gdańsk submitted a report to the European Commission on the completion of tasks assigned to the university in connection with being awarded the distinction of HR Excellence in Research. On 19 April 2018 a representative of the European Commission presented the university with a statuette to confirm the fact that it has received this exceptional logo of quality.

In addition, Dr Katarzyna Świerk, Head of the UG’s Research and International Cooperation Office, became an expert with the European Commission who assesses applications connected with HR Excellence in Research.

In connection with the possibility of using the HR Excellence in Research logo, a three-year action plan has been drawn up.

On 18 April 2016, the University of Gdańsk became only the second university in Poland to receive the HR Excellence in Research distinction. It is a mark of the highest standards in scientific research and the employment of researchers.

The European Commission awards the HR Excellence in Research logo to the research institutions which have implement the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, which oblige the research institutions to create friendly conditions for work and professional development as well as clear processes for the recruitment of researchers.

The process of awarding this distinction is one of the activities of the European Commission as part of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, whose aim is to enhance the attractiveness of work conditions for researchers across the EU and in consequence increase the number of researchers in European institutions.

Increasing the university’s internationalisation is also one of the objectives of the University of Gdańsk, with the HR Excellence in Research activities being one element of the UG’s strategy in this area.
