With deep regret we announce the death of 

Professor Bernd Baron von Maydell 

who passed away on 3 May 2018.

Professor Bernd Baron von Maydell was an expert in civil, labour and social law, closely linked to the University of Marburg, the University of Bonn and the Free University of Berlin. He was former Director of the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy, Honorary Professor of the University of Munich and Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Gdańsk following a motion by the Faculty of Law and Administration.

Professor Bernd Baron von Maydell received an honorary doctorate from the University in 2013 for his outstanding contribution to adapting Polish legal solutions to European standards and for strengthening academic cooperation between German and Polish research centres in the field of legal and social sciences.
