Shakespeare Festival among the best festivals in Europe

Prof. Jerzy Limon from the Institute of English and American Studies at the UG’s Faculty of Languages and director of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre has collected a 2017-2018 European Union EFFE Award in Brussels for the Shakespeare Festival, together with Joanna Śnieżko-Misterek, coordinator of the festival. It is the only Polish event to have been honoured with this prestigious award and one of five of the best European festivals to have been recognised by the European Union.

The winners were announced and prizes awarded on 18 September 2017 during the Arts Festivals Salon in Brussels. Other winners included FMM Sines – Festival Musicas do Mundo from Portugal, the European Film Festival Palic from Serbia, Utrecht Early Music Festival from Holland and the Altofest International Contemporary Live Arts from Italy. The special award went to the Edinburgh International Festival from the United Kingdom.

In June 2017 the University of Gdańsk and the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre signed a cooperation agreement regarding such joint activities as the popularisation of science, knowledge and culture, the exchange of experience in didactics and the organisation of joint educational and cultural enterprises.
